IRISH CIVIC GUARD

COLONEL NELIGAN DISMISSED. HEAD OF DETECTIVE BRANCH. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, December 21. The Dublin correspondent of the Daily Mail says the Government has dismissed without any explanation Colonel David Neligan, head of the Detective Division of the Civic Guard. Colonel Neligan was one of Michael Collins’s lieutenants against the British, and afterwards intelligence officer of the Free State Army against Mr de Valera’s irregulars. Extremist Republicans disliked Colonel Neligan, and demanded his removal. They also urged the disbandment of the Detective Division.
