“TURNED TAIL AID FLED.” Before being captured in front of the vicarage at Bentworth Alton, Hampshire, a mad cow, whieh had been at large for two days, clased the vicar into his house; flung a bailiff over a high railing, churned Jp the vicarage lawn with its hooves, aid terrorised all the villagers round about. This is the story as i was told by the vicar, the Rev. J. D. JtcCready: “I was strolling <?n my law! to-day when I heard a loud snort ant turned round to see’.the cow nosing hrough the gate. I immediately turned tail and fled into the vicarage. After tossing the bailiff over a high railing i ran into a field beside the vicarage.! Nobody could go into the field without being chased by the cow. r “At last someone hit on the bright idea of placing threi decoy cows in the field. We though there might be trouble, but the ma( cow seemed pleased to see her sanei sisters, and eventually with a handfil of hay and a few blandishments she was led away without much difficult/. Had I not closed the door after me,the cow might have been in my library by now.”
