BRITAIN’S “BEST DOG”
WHEELING A PERAMBULATOR. Bob of Chingford is claimed to be the most intelligent dog in Britain. He is a Labrador, 14 months old, and his owner, Mr Harold Wigmore, a London accountant, who lives at Chingford, is immensely proud of him. Here are some of Bob’s daily achievements: Tells the time, drinks beer, nurses the baby, likes dustmen, sleeps 16 hours a day, can walk 10 yards on his hind feet. Mr Wigmore says he thinks his dog is the most wonderful animal ever. “I set the alarm clock for seven each morning,” Mr Wigmore says. “The other day I forgot to wind the alarm, but at seven o’clock there was a terrific hullabaloo from Bob. He banged his body against the bedroom door until he thought I was awake. “Promptly at seven o'clock each night he looks at the clock and barks until I take him out. On Sunday morning he never dreams of bringing up the newspapers before nine o’clock. “It is absolutely fatal to leave beer about the house. Bob will unscrew any stopper, knock the bottle over and swallow its contents. One of his greatest joys is to take the pram-handle in his mouth and wheel the baby up and down outside the house. “One of his tricks is to -walk on his hind feet. He can now manage 10 yards. The only complaint I have about Bob is his extreme laziness.”
