SWIMMING NIAGARA
DUTCH LIEUTENANT. Hundreds of people gasped and shouted warnings when Lieutenant W. T. Vanthyne, a swimmer in the Dutch Olympic Games team, entered the water 100 yards above Niagara Falls and swam to the other side. There was tense excitement, as it appeared that the swimmer would be swept to his death. To policemen who went to him when he landed, the lieutenant explained that he was ignorant of the law forbidding anyone to swim the rapids.
