The Union Company’s steamer Kini finished discharging coal at mid-day yesterday and sailed a few minutes before 2 p.m. for Dunedin. , „ The New Zealand Shipping Company's motor liner Otaio completed loading the Southland portion of her cargo for the Home market about 5 p.m. yesterday, and was timed to sail later the same evening for Auckland. . ...... The Union Company s freighter <aipiata was scheduled to clear Lyttelton at 6 p.m. yesterday for Dunedin and Bluff. _ Due at Bluff to-morrow morning, the Waipiata will sail the same evening for Dunedin. _ The Union Steam Ship Company advise that the Waikouaiti was to leave Sydney yesterdav for Bluff direct, being due. here on Saturday. The vessel will sail again on Saturday for Dunedin and northern ports. The Union Company’s transpacific freighter Wairuna. with cargo from the Pacific coast of Canada and U.S.A., cleared Los Angeles on December 12 for Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, Melbourne and Sydney. Due at Bluff on January 15, the vessel will sail the same day for Melbourne. The Westland Shipping Company, owners of the Chatham Islands steamer Tees, announces that, as a result of a conference between the company and the islanders, they have made a reduction of approximately 10 per cent, in both outward and inward freights on all classes of cargo. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Hunter reached New Plymouth last Wednesday morning from Wellington to complete discharge of her cargo from New York and Corpus Christi, and to commence Homeward loading. She is to leave to-day for Wanganui, Napier, Auckland, Gisborne ana Wellington to complete. , A cruise to Noumea for tourist-class passengers, by the liner Moldavia, is announced by the P. and O. Company. It will occupy 11 days, commencing from Sydney on January 14 and Brisbane on January 18, and concluding at Sydney on January 25. Tourists will be landed at Noumea for a dav’s excursion on Saturday, January 21. The Peking, a steel four-masted barque, 3191 tons gross, 2851 tons net, built by Blohm and Voss. Hamburg, 1911, S.S. No. 2, 1931, and owned by the Reederei F. Laiesz, Hamburg. . has been sold to. the Shaftesbury Homes and Arethusa training ship. The Peking will replace the Arethusa, which is is an advanced stage of decay. The Union Company’s liner Niagara, en route from Vancouver, left Honolulu on December 14 for Suva, Auckland and Sydney. She is due at Auckland on December 26. A striking example of the quick method adopted in discharging ships at London is supplied in the case of the motor vessel Opawa. Advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the Opawa, which left Auckland at 2.20 p.m. on November 10, arrived at London at 1.45 p.m. on December 14, and commenced discharge exactly one hour after arrival.
