FATALITY AT WOODEND
PILLION PASSENGER KILLED. MOTOR CYCLE AND CART COLLIDE. An unusual fatality occurred at Woodend early yesterday morning when as a result of a collision between a motor cycle and a milk cart Charles Herbert Humphries, a married labourer, aged 57, who was a pillion passenger on the motor cycle, was killed instantly through the shaft of the cart piercing his ’throat. Humphries, who resided near Woodend, was walking to work at Mokotua creek and accepted a lift from a passing motor cyclist, Thomas Stewart Simpson, who was proceeding to the same place of employment. As they were passing the Woodend dairy factory they met a spring cart driven by James Wilson, jun. The cart was turning into the factory when the accident occurred, the right hand shaft of the cart piercing Humphries’ throat. Death was instantaneous. The motor cyclist was uninjured.
