EVENING SPORTS

A RIVERTON GATHERING. (From Our Correspondent). The recently formed Riverton Amateur Athletic Club held its first meeting on the recreation ground on Wednesday evening, when there was a fair attendance. This would have been considerably increased had the weather promised fine. The rain which fell in the afternoon, although much needed for household and other purposes, gave every promise of continuing, this keeping many away. The meeting was well organized, there being several close finishes in the running events. The opinion was generally expressed that the management should continue these gatherings at frequent intervals during the summer months. Mr J. A. C. Mackenzie, Mr M. Lyng, and Mr H. Henderson (secretary) assisted by other officials were responsible for the excellent arrangements made. Following are the results: 75 yards—First heat: Langford 1, Rogers 2. Also ran: McNeil.
