If it is wet, the work will have to be postponed until next Saturday. If the weather is doubtful, ring Mrs Cordery (1793). You pre urged to go, if you possibly can. It is hoped that twenty girls will be available, and that a very useful and enjoyable afternoon will be spent at “Wharemoana.” Examination Results. Idle examiner’s comment states: The above all passed and did very excellent work in the paper as well as in the practical and oral. The practical was of a much higher standard than formerly, although the “granny” kot was still the knot of choice. A Good Hike Meal. 1 An enthusiastic Ranger told me that she had tried this hike meal herself, and it was so good that she is anxious to try it again:— This makes a most satisfying meal, and all you have to carry is a large orange, a slice or two of bacon, one egg, and in paper bag Jib flour with a piece of butter rubbed into it, and add a pinch of salt and a few raisins. When you have your fire burning merrily, slice the top of your orange and empty the contents into your mug —a refreshing drink. Then, line the orange skin with grease-proof paper, place in it the slice of bacon, add the egg, another slice of bacon and replace the top on the orange. Place the orange among the hot ashes and it should be cooked in 15 minutes. While it is cooking mix your scone with a little water, and bake on a tin over the fire. I used the top of a tea tin and browned the scone on both sides. When you go hiking you don’t want sandwiches and cakes; just take the smallest amount of necessary ingredients to make something sustaining and keep jip your energy on the trip. I will tell you some more hike meals next week.

About Swimming. Summer is here again, and how many Guides who couldn’t swim last year are going to enjoy themselves at the beach? You must'learn to swim before you can hope to get the same pleasure out of a day at the beach as these Guides who can swim. Apart from that, it is the finest exercise for developing all the muscles of the body without a strain on any particular part Too much swimming will tire every muscle, not strain a particular one, as the legs in running or the right arm. in strenuous tennis. lam sure any Guide or Ranger would be only too pleased to go to the Baths with you and show you how it. is done. Of course you’re to do a lot for yourself by having the inclination and desire to learn and a certain amount of “stickativeness.” Then the swimming sports will be held again next year and we want every Guide and Ranger who can swim a length of the baths to make up her mind now to enter for them to add more interest to the competition. We can’t all win, but its good fun swimming in a race. I understand some Guiders did not encourage their young swimmers to enter last year, because in their opinion they didn’t have a chance of winning, and at the same time they lost the chance of encouraging them in their efforts to improve their strokes.
