NEW MOTOR FUEL
CREOSOTE OIL PRODUCTION BEGUN AT BELFAST SIXPENCE A GALLON (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, October 30. The Belfast correspondent of the Daily Ifepress states that three chemists at the Belfast gasworks have perfected the discovery of creosote oil as a substitute for petrol, which it is believed will ultimately halve Britain’s motor fuel bill. The Belfast gasworks are producing it at the rate of 500,000 gallons yearly, which is being eagerly snapped up at 6d a gallon. A local bus company is converting its fleet to its use and has effected a saving of Id a mile. A hundred private cars in Belfast are using it. London and several provincial city bus companies are experimenting with it. The new oil is already being produced in Manchester, and the formula has already been broadcasted throughout the Empire. A representative of the Commonwealth Government who has studied the methods here is on his way back to recommend the encouragement of its production throughout Australia.
