OTARA NOTES
ATHLETIC SPORTS SOCIETY. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Otara Athletic Sports Society was held in the Public Hall last Saturday evening, October 22, Mr A. Black, president, presiding over a large attendance of members. The report stated: It is again pleasing that the society experienced another very successful meeting and the club desires to thank all officials who so ably carried out their luties. Special credit is due to our able secretary, Mr W. T. Blair. Testifying to the popularity of the Otara Sports Society, one of the largest gatherings were present, and the gate receipts were a record, being up £lO. In the bushcraft events there was a slight falling off, while field events showed a considerable increase. Altogether £l2O was handled at the meeting and a profit of £l3 13/- was made. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officials resulted: President, Mr A. Black (re-appointed); secretary, Mr W. T. Blair (re-elected). The programme submitted by the committee was -adopted. The events to include amateur (2), cycling (2) and dancing (6). It was decided to again hold the sports on a Saturday, January 18 if date available, and to have a grand ball on the Friday evening, January 17. Four new members were elected. Mr W. Young, judge of the bushcraft events, was elected an honorary member of the club.
