WOMEN’S CAR RAIDS
SHOPLIFTING GANG ON TOUR. Three London women, who were stated by the police to be “associates of a gang who indulged in an orgy of shoplifting,” were each sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment at Arundel, Sussex. They admitted stealing a fur valued at £l5 from a shop and three dresses valued at £l9 from another shop. It was stated that the women arrived at Arundel in a big car and were seen driving away shortly afterwards. They were stopped at Pulborough, and the stolen fur, six dresses, and children’s bathing costumes were found in the car. The police said each of the women had several convictions. They were associates of a gang of clever shoplifters who not only operated in London but toured the country in cars.
