Evidence All Round

When I gaze around me I must believe in fairies. Just look at the masses of golden daffodils to be seen everywhere. The fairies must have taken the colour from the sunbeams to paint them and how they must have worked. Then there are the crocuses, yellow, blue, and white, surely the fairies must have dipped their paint brushes on the rainbow hues to paint them. Then just look at the pure white daisies. It seems to me the fairies must have danced on the snow and then on the grass and everywhere their tiny toes touched, left pure white daisy only waiting for the one spot of gold which they would get from the sun, and place it in the centre. And our modest little violet; I think at, some time the fairies must have splashed ink about and then tried to hide it under the green leaves, but I could go on for ever showing what wonderful artists the fairies are. On a misty morning I always think how busy the fairies must have been all night hanging up that beautiful, white gossamer veil. And closer still upon the hedges all the beautiful sparkling webs. Sometimes when I see the dew drops on everything I think the fairies must have been sad and wept. —Cousin Connie Jellyman (13), Queen street, Otautau.
