MYSTERIOUS FIRE

AVIATION WORKS DESTROYED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.5 p.m.) London, October 12. Heavy damage was done by a mysterious fire which destroyed the Fairey Aviation Company’s experimental works at Hamble, including ten of the world’s fastest seaplanes which were being tested before delivery to the fleet air arm. One was saved. The fire originated in the main office and spread so rapidly that the huge wooden building was a burning mass before brigades could get to work. Flames 50ft high were seen 20 miles away.
