DAILY SHAKEN
’QUAKES CONTINUE THE GISBORNE DISTRICT COUNTRYSIDE SHATTERED (Per United Press Association.) Gisborne, October 6. Mr K. S. Williams, M.P., and Mr C. J. McKenzie, Assistant-Engineer-in-Chicf of the Public Works Department, have visited the Tiniroto and Mangapoike areas during the past two days to ascertain the extent of the ’quake damage. Shakes, varying, in intensity, occur daily and at night in these areas. One last Thursday at Paparatu brought down more slips and was the most severe of the series. Many of the steep faces have been loosened and it appears that much additional earth and rock will fall. Cracks and slips are numerous, shattering the countryside, and have done much damage to boundary fences. It is feared the losses of stock are considerable. Mr A. M. Ongley, of the Geological Survey Branch, visited the district this week and displayed interest in the Whakapunake Mountain, whence strange rumblings come during the earth disturbances.
