TOTALISATOR CLUBS
DEVELOPMENT IN GAMBLING. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.25 p.m.) London, October 6. A serious development in the gambling craze occurred in Britain with the opening of totalisator clubs, hundreds of which are now operating in London and many more in the provinces. The police have already closed several, but the majority are well conducted and pay out the proper odds.
Most of the totalisator clubs decline to provide drink, but others are serious rivals to neighbouring public houses. The membership fee is a shilling a year, and the members include many women and even girls.
