LEAGUE SALARIES

MOVEMENT FOR REDUCTION.

SIR THOMAS WILFORD’S PROPOSALS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Geneva, October 5. A long debate occurred at a meeting of the Budget Committee of the League of Nations on the salary reductions in the course of which Sir Thomas Wilford opposed a test case as unjustifiable delay. The committee by 20 votes to 12 adopted Sir Edward Hilton Young’s motion that the jurists should submit an early opinion whether the reductions would be legal. The commission is now debating Sir Edward Hilton Young’s motion proposing 10 per cent, reductions from October 15.

Sir Thomas Wilford asked whether it was necessary that the internal services staff should be so numerous and expensive. He suggested the abolition of the League“s offices in London and Paris and its branch offices at Rome, Tokio and Berlin.

The chairman promised a later opportunity for raising the question. Sir Thomas Wilford moved an amendment that any reduction should not be applicable to the recipients of under £4OO annually.
