RAILWAY REVENUE

A FURTHER IMPROVEMENT. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 6. The figures for the latest fourweekly period which ended on September 17 reveal a further improvement of . approximately £2OOO in the Railway Department’s net revenue compared with the corresponding four weeks of last year, making a total increase of £64,885 in net revenue for the first twenty weeks of the current financial’ year. The revenue decrease of £47,297 (from £451,377 to £404,080) during the last four weeks, due partly to a prevailing slackness in trade and partly to the strike conditions at a number of South Island coal mines throughout the period, was more than balanced by a reduction of £49,257 in the expenditure for the year to date. While the total revenue has decreased by £233,757 the total expenditure has been reduced by £298,642, leaving an improvement of £64,885 in the net revenue as stated.
