BORDER TENSION
CAPTURE OF MANCHULI TEMPORARY REIGN OF TERROR GRAVE ANXIETY (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.0 p.m.) Shanghai, September 28. Reports from Harbin, confirmed by Tokio, indicate an alarming state of affairs along the Transsiberian railway. The capture of Manchuli, a border station between Siberia and Manchuria, by anti-Manchukuo troops and the seizure of the station and rolling stock have caused complete dislocation of through traffic. A considerable force descended on the town, creating a temporary reign of terror, though the fate of foreigners is unknown. There have been a large number of casualties among the native population. Anti-Manchukuo troops fired on passing trains, rendering travel dangerous. It is reported that they also intend massacring all Japanese in the Manchuli and Hailar districts as a reprisal for the Japanese seizure of Manchuria. The announcement is creating the gravest apprehension, and the activities of the Chinese Volunteer Corps operating in Manchuria are causing the Manchukuo authorities endless anxiety.
