FIRE BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Invercargill Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, the chairman (Mr E. B. Pilcher) presiding over the following members: Messrs C. J. Broad, M. N. Hyndman, R. N. Todd and his Worship the Mayor (Mr John Miller). The superintendent (Mr F. S. Simpson) reported that during the month the brigade attended seven calls, these comprising one dwelling, one shop, one wash-house, one boiler-house, one chimney fire and two false alarms, one maliciously given and one justifiable. No. 2 motor was placed in commission on September 1 after reqgiving attention at the paint shop. Opportunity was taken to fit a windscreen which added both to her appearance and the comfort of the driver. All routine work had been regularly carried out and all automatic and street fire alarms were at present in good order. Repairs and renovation work about the station premises had been occupying the attention of the staff and all plant and equipment were in first class order. The report was adopted. The chairman and the secretary (Mr L. S. Graham) were appointed to represent the board at a proposed conference of fire boards at Wellington during the second week of October.
