The New Zealand racehorses Admiral Drake and Garter Knight, With a number of Dominion sportsmen fot the Spring carnival, had a rough Crossing of the Tasman on board the Maunganui. Garter Knight, a flighty colt, was injured while struggling to escape when the vessel Was rolling. He tried to climb over the rail of the loose-box and struck himself. He was placed under Veterinary treatment upon arrival. Admiral Drake was transhipped for Melbourne. Dominion owners and trainers here are pleased that the Stevens Government has abolished the Winning bets tax and substituted a tax on bookmakers’ turnover.
