Members of the New Zealand Olympic team, which returned by the Monowai, spoke in glamorous terms of the weather experienced in California during their stay. “It never seems to rain; California is a land of perpetpal sunshine,” was a frequent comment, and the contrast between variable New Zealand and sunny California seemed to be accentuated by the cold, wintry weather which greeted the athletes as they stepped ashore from the liner. Welsh coal will be exclusively used in a new floating depot for bunker coal with a capacity of 16,000 tons that has been installed at Genoa.
