OBITUARY

SIR PERCY GIROUARD. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, September 26. The death is announced of Sir Percy Girouard. Colonel Sir Percy Girouard entered the army in 1888. He served in the Dongola Force in 1896, and the Nile Expedition in 1897. He was railway traffic manager at Woolwich Arsenal from 1890 to 1895, director of the Sudan Railway from 1896 to 1898, president of the Egyptian Railyway Board from 1898 to 1899, Director of Railways, South Africa, from 1899 to 1902. He was High Commissioner of the Protectorate of Northern Nigeria from 1908 to 1909 and Governor and Com-mander-in-chief of the East African Protectorate, 1902 to 1912, and DirectorGeneral of .Munitions Supply, 1915. DR. R. STUART REID. Vancouver, September 26. Dr Robert Stuart Reid, L.R.C.P., the first native-born New Zealander to graduate in medicine at the University of Edinburgh, died to-day at the home of his son-in-law, Professor E. A. Lloyd, of the University of British Columbia. The deceased reached the age of 77. He was a son of Mr Charles Reid, of Dunedin, and served 25 years in the New Zealand Voluntary Medical Corps before he came to Canada in 1910. The deceased was a well-known member of a well-known family. His father, Mr Charles Reid, brother to Mr Donald Reid, was an accountant and the Standard Insurance Company’s first manager. The late Mr Donald Reid, who was a solicitor at Milton, was a brother of the deceased. MISS EVA DAVENPORT. (Rec. 7.0 p.ni.) New York, Sept. 26. Miss Eva Davenport, aged 74, an operetta star of the last century, died on Monday. She Went to Australia from her birthplace in England at the age of 15 and is credited with playing ih the first performance of “Pinafore” there as Josephine.
