CRICKET

THE GORE CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Gore Cricket Club was held last evening, the president (Mr A. W. Thomson) presiding over a fair attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet (already published), the chairman said that last season’s competition had not been a very satisfactory one and for various reasons all the fixture matches had not been completed. Financially the season had also been somewhat disappointing and the balance now in hand was very small. The expenditure, however, had included an amount of approximately £7 outstanding from the previous season and a number of subscriptions had yet to be paid. Attendances at practices had been very satisfactory and several members of the club had attained excellent batting and bowling averages. The motion was seconded by Mr P. Kelly and carried. The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr J. J. Perry; vicepresidents, Messrs A. W. Thomson, T. Spittle, sen., J. A. Wright, R. W. McCreath, G. Anderson, W. D. Shelton and Dr J. E. Rogers; committee, Messrs P. Kelly, D. Reid, J. Davidson, W. Macara; secretary, Mr C. Campbell; practice captain, Mr P. Kelly; captain, Mr B. Reid; deputy captain, Mr C. Campbell; committee, captain, deputy captain, and practice captain; custodian, Mr J. Currie; delegates to Cricket Association, Messrs J. J. Perry and C. Campbell. Four new members were elected. The opening day was fixed for Wednesday, October 5, the Celtic Club to be invited to play a friendly game. It was decided to enter one team only in the competition. The secretary was instructed to write to the Gore High School Board of Governors thanking it for the use of the hostel ground.
