HIKURANGI MINE

FURTHER DISPUTE WITH MEN.

(Per United Press Association.) Whangarci, September 26. Another serious phase has occurred in connection with the Waro Co-oper-ative Colliery at Hikurangi, the miners’ truckers refusing to hew the coal for the purpose of keeping the boilers and pumps going because the board of directors decided to diverge from rationing work and pick their own men to carry on operations this week. The decision was due to insufficient coal being raised under the rationing scheme. The miners’. truckers thereupon declared the mine “black,” but the directors themselves will carry on the work till the end of this week in order to keep faith with the owners of Wilson’s Cement Company, who undertook to pay the men to produce boiler coal for a fortnight terminating next Saturday. It is understood that negotiations are proceeding in Auckland which will definitely determine the fate of the mine.
