COLAC BAY NOTES

The annual meeting of the committee of the Drill Hall was held on Saturday evening. Mr R. Whittle was again appointed secretary and Mr T. Egerton chairman. It was decided to purchase a new piano for the hall. The last night of the Round Hill euchre tournament was held on Thursday. Mrs T. Egerton won the ladies’ prize and Miss A. Neilson the consolation prize. Mr Timpany won the men’s prize and Mr Wall the consolation prize. The return football match, Colac v. Round Hill Unemployment Camp will take place at Round Hill on Friday, October 7. A footballers’ ball will be held at the Drill Hall, Colac, in the evening.
On Saturday the Colac Girl Guides under the leadership of their captain and lieutenant, Miss McLaughlan and Miss Egerton, held a hike from Wakapatu to Colac via Round Hill. For the first stage of the journey, Colac to Wakapatu, they went by train. The guides spent an enjoyable afternoon at the Round Hill sluicing claim and arrived home at Colac about 6.15 p.m. after what was unanimously voted the best day’s hike they had ever had. On Friday, September 30, a benefit concert and dance is to be held in the Drill Hall for Messrs White and Tapham, both of whom were recently burnt out.
