OLD-TIMERS’ CONCERT

POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT. On Thursday evening the members of the Old Timers’ Concert Party gave a delightful entertainment in the North Invercargill Public Hall. The performance was in aid of the approaching jubilee of the Dominican Nuns and the hall was crowded. The programme was a lengthy one, and every item was well received. Mrs Donnelly gave a selection of Irish airs on the violin, and was warmly applauded. Mr Baldwin sang “Killaloe” and as an encore “Three Leaves of Shamrock.” Miss Simon sang “My Prayer.” Mr H. Anthony sang “It’s Hard to Live” and later appeared to advantage in a duet with Mr E. W. Wright. “Maggie Murphy’s Home,” sung by Mrs Macpherson, was received with applause. Little Miss Jenkinson, the mascot of the party, danced an Irish number and recited “Shopping” and “At the Movies.” Mr E. W. Wright, so very well known on Invercargill concert platforms, sangs “Worked Eight Hours This Day,” and “It’s Close.” Whistling solos by Mrs Paton were, as usual, much appreciated. A dance on roller skates, and a tambourine performance by Mr Frank Butler proved very popular. Mrs Mackenzie sang “Mother Machree” and as an encore “My Ain Folk.” Mr George Dixon gave a selection of Scottish airs on the violin, and Mr Sutherland a selection on the bagpipes. Miss Hoffman A.T.C.L., L.T.C.L., assisted by Mrs Collins, carried out the duties of accompaniste. After the performance a vote of thanks to the concert party was proposed by Mr M. Sheehan and responded to on behalf of the performers by Mr E. W. Wright.
