Gramophones are replacing pianos In Britain. In 1924, as a nation British people bought 92,810 pianos and 276,092 gramophones; in 1930 the pianos sold numbered 50,120, and the gramophones 774,681. Britain is buying more pipes for to-bacco-smoking, but they are costing less. The national output of pipes numbered 4,176,000, worth £738,000, in 1924; in 1930 were produced 6,192,-000 pipes, valued at £383,000.
