WRECKED PLANE
CONDITION OF PILOT. REGARDED AS CRITICAL. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, September 23. Although it was stated to-day that he showed some slight improvement, the condition of Taylor, the pilot of the ’plane which crashed at Johnsonville, is still regarded as critical. De Tourettes was still in bed to-day. A member of the family stated he was not at all well and they were thinking of getting a doctor to see him. An inspection of the wreckage has been made by Squadron-Leader Stedman, pilot instructor to the Wellington Aero Club, and Flight-Lieutenant A. de T. Nevill, Staff Officer to the Director of Air Services. Subsequently the remains of the ’plane were taken to the Rongotai Aerodrome. Mr Stedman said he was satisfied there had been no failure of the controls and the machine was a complete wreck. “We are finding nuts and bolts and things like that, but, having been through the fire, they are practically valueless.” De Tourettes . was not in a fit condition when he saw him yesterday to answer any questions as to what the trouble had been. Lieutenant Nevill states that the present indications point to the ’plane developing engine trouble. The club would hold an inquiry and there might possibly be an official inquiry conducted by the Civil Aviation Department.
