70,000 BRITISH DEAD. PRINCE PERFORMING UNVEILING. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, July 28. The Prince of Wales will on Monday unveil at Thiepval a memorial to over 70,000 British soldiers who died in that area but who have no known graves. As the unveiling ceremony is proceeding disabled ex-service men will scatter in the Anglo-French cemetery, where the memorial stands, the ashes of little wooden crosses _ placed among the poppies in the British Legion’s Field of Remembrance outside Westminster Abbey each Armistice Day. When the Prince reaches Thiepval he will inspect a guard of honour and receive the French President, M. Leßrun, who will deliver an address after the memorial has been unveiled. The memorial will bear the following inscription: “To the Glory of God and in grateful memory of 73,367 soldiers who gave their lives on the Somme battlefields in the service of their King and Country, but who have no known graves, we dedicate this memorial, praying that, inspired by the example of these our brothers, we who remain may give our lives for the progress of humanity so that we be not ashamed when we meet with them beyond the grave.”
