NO AGREEMENT

BUTCHERS’ DISPUTE. WAGES DISPUTED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, July 26. After an all-day sitting of the Conciliation Council to-day, no agreement was reached between the parties to the Wellington butchers’ dispute. The position now is that the award will expire one month from the date on which the advice of failure to agree is sort by the Conciliation Commissioner to the clerk of awards. The acting-Com-missioner, Mr Newton, presided. The employers proposed varying reductions in wages, instances being a first shopman £5 17/6 to £5 7/6. other workers from £4 16/- to £4 7/6 and youths up to 16 years of age from 30/to 17/6. The employees sought increases. In view of the inability to roach agreement on wages, it was. considered futile to proceed with the discussion of other clauses.
