THE GORE CLOTHING CLUB.

To the Editor. Sir, —May we through the medium of your columns appeal to the country people in the vicinity of Gore, particularly the children, to help the Clothing Club to meet an urgent need. We have had many requests for blankets and it has been impossible to supply these. A sub-committee consisting of Mesdames R. B. Bannerman, A. J. Hawke and the writer was appointed to launch a scheme whereby this need may be partly met Briefly the plan is as follows: We appeal to knitters, especially children, to knit 6-inch squares with double knitting or wheeling wool, using No. 8 needles and casting on 30 stitches. Any colour wool or several colours to one square may be used. It will be possible however to use any wool not finer than 4-ply. If the wool is very fine perhaps it could be knitted up double. We are anxious to have the squares of uniform size and thickness. As the squares are finished please send them to' the Mayor of Gore, Mr Newman, giving the knitter’s name and the number of squares in order that the gift may be acknowledged in the Press. The Clothing Club will arrange for the squares to be made up into bedcovers and also cot covers for children. The town children are helping. but we require a large supply and must widen the scope of the appeal. The need is urgent. We would be very grateful for early supplies of squares.—l am, etc., C. E. P. WEBB.
