WAIMATE BUS DRIVER. INDIGNATION MEETING HELD. (Per United Press Association.) Waimate, June 14. A largely-attended indignation meet-* ing discussed the position of Andrew Shanks, who lost Ids license for a bus run from Waimate to Timaru. Shanks lost a leg in an accident and purchased a bus business in May, 1931, with the compensation. money therefrom. The local licensing authority-licensed Shanks, but a competitor appealed and the Appeal Court cancelled Shanks’ license. The meeting, which included ministers of religion, the Mayor, Mr George Dash, and Mr J. Bitchener, M.P., agreed that Shanks’ service was satisfactory and protested against the legislation which forced him off the run, and provided no compensation. It was agreed to support him in any transport business undertaken, and also to suggest to the Railway Department that they should engage him for the transport of passengers from Waimate to Studholme in place of the railway bus.
