Mr H. Beattie, of Waimate, is at present on a visit to Gore and is staying with his parents, Mr Murray Wilson leaves for Wellington by the express this morning and expects to return to Invercargill on Tuesday night. Messrs G. B. Purdue and T. Metcalfe, Southland representatives in the South Island Rugby football team, leave by the express this morning for Christchurch. Mr D. Rutledge left for Dunedin by the express yesterday afternoon to attend the annual meeting of the South Island Dairy Association which opens to-day. Mr J. Macleod left en route to Whangarei by the express yesterday afternoon and was farewelled by a large number of friends and business associates. Mr and Mrs C. H. Long, of Milford Hostel, are at present on a visit to Invercargill. They will leave on their return to the Sound by the Government steamer Matai on Tuesday. The fiftieth anniversary of their wedding was celebrated yesterday by Sir Walter Stringer and Lady Stringer. Unfortunately Lady Stringer was indisposed and unable to receive visitors. In 1882 Sir Walter was married in Dunedin to Miss Ada Davies, daughter of Mrs F. A. Davies, of Dunedin. The news of the death of Mr Robert J. Potts, of Crookston, at the early age of 25 years, which occurred at his residence on Friday, was received with general regret throughout the district. Although deceased had not enjoyed the best of health for some time, he was able to carry on with his work, and was only confined to bed for several days before his sudden passing. The funeral took place at the Crookston cemetery on Monday, when there was a large following of relatives and friends; also a representative gathering of members of Loyal Tapanui Lodge. The -rvices at the home and at the gra’-eside were conducted by the Rev. J. B. Bickerstaff, who was assisted by the Rev J. Cawley, of Centre Bush.
