ZUYDER ZEE CLOSED
18-MILE DYKE BUILT. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, May 30. The Hague correspondent of The Times says that with the completion of an 18-mile dyke between North Holland and Friesland the Zuyder Zee has been finally severed from the North Sea. The work has taken nearly twelve years. One-tenth of the reclaimed land has already been drained and cultivated. While most Dutchmen are celebrating the closing of the Zuyder Zee as a historic event, fisherfolk regard it as a tragedy, many of their boats being laid up in harbour with the flags flying at half-mast.
