Getting Ready for Winter

Getting furs out of their summer mothbags, ready for winter use, often reveals the fact that they have been put away in a soiled. condition. To freshen them up again warm some bran, sprinkle the fur well with it, and rub it. Then shake it well, and, after two or three applications, hang the fur out and beat well with a fine cane. Powdered magnesia, or warm fuller’s earth is best for white furs. Hold the fur at the tail end and shake thoroughly before and after wear, and beat with a cane frequently; this helps to bring the hair up, and make fur look full and fluffy.
