SOUTHLAND ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Southland Basketball Association was held last evening, the president, Miss B. B. Bay, jwestding over a large attendance of delegates. In moving the adoption of the annual report (already published) and balancesheet, the president said it was always gratifying to report progress and during the season progress had been made numerically and in the standard of play. The sub-associ-ations had been represented in the junior provincial team and she anticipated that in the coming season more country players would be included in the representative teams. This would tend to draw the subassociations closer to the parent body. The financial position of the association was also satisfactory. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patrons, Messrs J. A. Doig and B. C. Galloway; president, Miss E. B. Pay; vice-presidents, Mesdames R. S. Mclnnes and A. Noble; secretary, Miss M. Shand; treasurer, Miss M. L. Strathern; executive, Mrs Batchelor, Mr J. Holland, Misses G. Basstian and G. Boniface; executive of N.Z.8.A., Mesdames A. C. Mac Ewan and W. N. Johnston and Mr A. Kinross; first aid official, Mrs Bain Challis. It was decided to hold the opening matches of the season on April 9. A motion of thanks to Miss Grace Basstian for her services as secretary was carried. It was decided to play the annual tournament on June 3 as a nine-a-sidc tournament in future. It was decided to continue the practice of giving badges to representative players instead of “blues.” It was resolved that any one club .should not have more than one representative on the executive, with the exception of the playing members. It was agreed to send a leter of appreciation to Mr N. R. Hamilton, a former member of the executive who had been transferred from Invercargill, for his services to the game.
