RUSSIAN TIMBER
SUPPLIES FOR BRITAIN. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) Moscow, March 10. A contract has been signed to supply Britain with 2,100,000 cubic metres of timber in 1932. The Tass Agency says that British importers have organized a special company, Timber Distributors, Ltd., which includes 100 firms, the shares .being distributed among importing firms throughout Britain. COMMENT ON DEAL NATURAL RESENTMENT. (Rec. 1.20 a.m.) London, March 17. The Times in an editorial says the timber deal produces a disagreeable impression of the exploitation of convicts and political prisoners under which Russian timber is cut and transported, and causes a wideBpread impression that it should be completely prohibited. There is natural resentment at such a huge contract which will damage British Columbian and Scandinavian industries, and adversely affect the British balance of trade with Russia which is already lopsided.
