RAILWAYMEN AT PLAY. WINTON v. INVERCARGILL. Uninspiring batting was a feature of a friendly cricket match between Winton and the Invercargill Railways elevens on the former's ground. The local men, going m first, scored 61, the only ones not troubled by the bow-ling being W. Oleine and the veteran G. Horner. The visitors ran to 73, thus winning on the first innings by 12 runs. Ferguson played a capital innings for 28. At the drawing of stumps Winton had six down for 44. Scores: — Winton. INVERCARGILL. VISITORS WIN BY NARROW MARGIN. During the week-end a very enjoyable cricket match was played in ideal weather on the Showgrounds, between Dunedin Railway and Invercargill Railway. Although the Invercargill team were not at home on the turf wicket, they put up a stubborn fight which can be considered very creditable under the circumstances. The game was won on the first innings by Dunedin by the small margin of five runs. Details are as follows:

The cricket match between the County of Cornwall and Lord Tennyson’s English team w-as not finished on Saturday and was drawn. Cornwall made 141 and 185 for eight and Lord Tennyson’s team 244 for eight (declared).
