BLUFF NOTES

LODGE PICNIC. (From Our Correspondent.) Mrs W. J. Mackay, Barrow street, returned on Sunday night after an extended visit to Scotland and other parts of the Homeland. R.A.0.8. Picnic. The Bluff branch of the R.A.0.8. held its annual picnic at the week-end and a very happy day was spent by members, their families and friends. This time the event was held at Ocean Beach, which locality proved ideal for the outing, and the lodge was favoured with a particularly fine and warm day. At its picnics and other public functions of a social nature, the R.A.0.8. makes a point of catering for the tastes of the children and on this occasion the ladgo’s reputation in this direction was well maintained; as every child attending was given a toy, while there was an apparentlj' limitless supply of fruit, sweets, and soft drinks available for all. The organization and control of the outing were complete in every detail and the committee responsible deserves great credit for the way the sports programme was put through. The members were: Messrs F. Barford, L. P. Denton, E. Russell, T. James, S. Millin, C. Walter and W. J. Mackay At the conclusion of the picnic the party grouped and were played back to the waiting buses by Mr Eric Parker, one of. the lodge pipers. Mr S. Millin earned the gratitude of the picknickere by carting all equipment required, including hampers, to the beach.

The sporting events created great enthusiasm and some excellent finishes were seen. The chain stepping competition for men was remarkable for the gauging of distance, the winner being only half ‘an inch off the correct mark, while second and third were an inch and two inches away respectively. Results were as follows: Tiny tots’ race: Eric Campbell, Millen, Rusell. Married Ladies: Mrs C. Walter 1, Mrs L. P. Denton 2, Mrs W. Campbell 3; Girls 8 to 12: M. Fowler 1, V. Silvester 2, M.
