LUMSDEN NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the Lumsden branch of the Women’s Division was held on February 16. Mrs Beer presided. It was decided that the members conduct an afternoon tea stall at the saleyards on April 6. Mrs Clouston very kindly consented to give a demonstration on basket-making in place of Mrs Varcoe who was unable to be present. Mrs Clouston’s demonstration was very much appreciated by the members. A concert in aid of the Boy Scout funds organized by Mrs Wilson was held on Wednesday evening. The efforts of the company which were both clever and amusing were witnessed by a large and appreciative audience. The second half of the programme consisted of a “Darkie” circle, with E. Wildey as "Massa Johnson,” W. Williamson "Sambo” and S. Allott “Bones.” The local hits, choruses, and stories caused much merriment. It is the intention of the company to visit Athol on Tuesday, the proceeds of the concert to go towards some local fund. Tennis. On Saturday the Northern tennis competition was advanced another stage when Lumsden defeated Rivcrsdale on the Lumsden courts. Mrs O’Brien and Mrs Young 7. Combined Doubles: D. Ogilvy and Mrs Biggar 7 v. O’Brien and Miss Tither 6; Aitcheson and Miss Sherriff 7 v. Stanton and Mis Wright 6; Owen and Mrs McDonald 7 v. Brownlie aad Mra O'Brien 3; J. Ogilvy and Miss Gerken 7 v. Kelly and Mrs Young 3. Lumsden 11 sets, 111 games; Riversdale 5 sets, 92 games. Personal. Mrs W. J. Andrews and family, accompanied by Mrs Dorricott, of "Sterndale,” Eyre Creek, have gone to Waikaka for a few davs. Mr J. Robertson, Waikiwi, is the guest of Mr T. McDonald. Building in Lumsden. Two new residences will shortly be erected in Lumsden. One, for Mrs J. Cummings, is in the course of erection, the contractor being Mr J. McKenzie, of McKenzie and Gray, Invercargill, while the tenders are advertised for a six ; roomed residence for Mr Murdo Mathieson, who intends retiring in Lumsden.
