WYNDHAM NEWS

LECKIE FAMILY HONOURED. (From Our Correspondent.) Almost since the inception of Wyndham and District St. Andrew’s Scottish Societysome six years ago, the Leckie family orchestra (comprising principally' Mrs W. G. Leckie, Miss Janet and Mr Gunn Leckie) have given great service to the society as a whole by supplying music for the dances which take place at the close of each monthly meeting. Wishing to acknowledge in some way their appreciation of these services the councillors and their wives paid a surprise visit to the family home at Redan on Friday evening. Chief John Halliday' presided and under his genial guidance, a happy hour or two was spent with music, song and story to which the following contributed: —Bagpipe duets, Pipers W. Cochrane and J. McDonald; songs, Messrs D. N.'A. Macpherson, D. F. Leckie, Cam Leckie, Gunn Leckie, J. Young and J. McDonald; recitation, Mr James Henderson and Master Roddy McDonald; pianoforte solos, Mrs D. F. Leckie; violin solos, Mr Jim Leckie; orchestral numbers, Leckie family (Mrs Leckie piano, Miss Janet mandolin, Messrs Jim and Cam violins, and Gunn, clarinet). ' Prior to supper Chief Halliday, on behalf of the society, asked Mrs Leckie’s acceptance of a dinner set as a token of their appreciation, of the service which she and the other members of her talented family had rendered the society in a musical sense. To Miss Janet Leckie, Chieftain Ross presented a leather handbag and string of beads, while to Mr Gunn Leckie Chieftain James Henderson presented a pocket wallet and pair of military hair brushes; both speakers referring in generous terms to the many excellent qualities of the recipients. Regret was expressed at the unavoidable absence of Mr Leckie from the function and in asking Mrs Leckie to accept a gift on her husband’s behalf, Mr Angus Campbell referred'to-the part which Mr Leckie. had played in encouraging his family in their- musical endeavours. Mr Jim Leckie, in returning thanks on behalf of his mother, sister and brother, expressed the complete surprise with which the visit had taken them. As a family they were only too pleased to help the society’ in whatever way they could; and he felt sure that his mother, in doing so, had no thought of remuneration whatsoever. A happy evening was then brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Social Notes. Mr A. W. Crosbie left on Saturday morning for a holiday visit to the West Coast. Whittlestone, Methodist parsonage, Edendale.
