NIGHTCAPS NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.)
Local cricketers are believers in the maxim that “enthusiasm begets enthusiasm, ’ and have been rolling up to practice during the week in strong force. On Tuesday evening close on 50 players participated in the popular summer pastime. With plenty of talent available, next season should see the game well established. The local A tennis team does not play any match in the second round of the Western District competition till next month. The club has a very large membership this Beason, and when the new court is laid down players will be well provided for. By offering every encouragement to junior players, as this club has done in the past, a wise policy is being pursued. Scouting activities have been suspended of late owing to the absence of Scoutmaster J. Phelan, on holiday. Mrs Chalmers, Cromwell, and her son, Mr G. Chalmers, were recently the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Dahren. Misa Steele, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs D. McGregor, senior. Masters W. and E. Boyle are spending the holidays at Gore.
