CABINET MEETS
FINANCE PROBLEMS WORK OF COMMISSION INCREASED TAXATION LIKELY (Per United Press Association.) ■ Wellington, January 18. Cabinet sat this evening discussing the financial position of the country and plans for the legislative programme for the emerg'ency session. Many important decisions will be delayed until the recommendations have been made by the Special Economy Commission, the personnel of which will be announced shortly. The Prime Minister hopes to make an announcement regarding the commission before the end of the week. It is expected the commission will submit an interim report in order that the recommendations may be embodied in the legislation of the emergency session. The declining revenue and call for additional funds for unemployment relief make it apparent that increased taxation is likely if the Unemployment Board's work is to be extended. The removal of award restrictions checking employment, especially relating to apprentices is believed to be another important line of legislation likely to be dealt with.
