RIFLE SHOOTING
THE GORE CLUB. AGGREGATE COMPLETED. Last week saw the completion of the first aggregate fired by the members of the Gore Defence Rifle Club this season, the final stage being seven shots at the 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges for a trophy presented by the Para Rubber Co. Ltd, Gore. Although the conditions were good, the shooting on the whole was poor. The competition was won by Rifleman J. G. Mathews with a score of 97, including 12 points handicap. W. Cunningham filling second position with 95, including eight points handicap. Top score off the rifle was made by W. Milne with 92. The silver spoons for range prizes were won by the following: 300 yards, W. Milne, with a scratch score of 33; 500 yards, B. Cochrane, with a scratch score of 34; 600 yards, J. G. Mathews, with 33, including two points handicap. The following were the detailed scores, handicaps being given in parentheses:—
The first stage for the club’s championship has now been completed. The following are the leading scores: — 500yds 600yds & 600
A new aggregate, also counting for the second stage of the championship, will be commenced this week, for a trophy presented by Mr C. M. Wilson. This will consist of two shoots, with handicaps of 10 shots each over the 300 and 500 yards, 300 and 600 yards and 500 and 600 yards, the best score of each series to count, with a final shoot of seven shots each range over the 300, 500 and 600 yards distances. Mr D. S. Mackenzie is presenting a trophy for the best shoot, with handicaps, for the first series of the 300 and 500 yards ranges and the 500 and 600 yards ranges. Mr S. Preece is also presenting a cup for the best score with handicaps, in this aggregate and the next. In addition, silver spoons will be given each week for the best totals at each distance.
