COLAC BAY NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) A very enjoyable evening was spent at Mr and Mrs F. Belsham’s residence, Colac, in the form of a surprise party. Those present were: Mr and Mrs G. McLeod, Mr and Mrs V. Gerken, Messrs A. Williamson and J. Matheson (Gore), Mr Fred Belsham (Bluff), Mr and Mrs Davis and Miss NancyDavis (Colac), Mr Bull (Taranaki), Mr and Mrs McKay (Moeraki). The evening was spent in card playing, singing and dancing, the music being supplied by Mr McLeod (bagpipes), Mr M. Belsham (guitar), Mrs McKay (ukelele) and Mr Davis (cornet). On Wednesday, December 30, the Oraki School Committee held an enjoyable dance in the Oraki Hall. Music was supplied by Messrs Egerton and Fisher (accordion) and Beadle (drums and effects). The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr T. Te Au. ■Misses R. Scott and Wytock gave an exhibition of tap dancing and Mr Donaldson contributed a song. Those present included Mesdames Branks, Egerton, Maley, Scott, W'arnecke, Martin and Wilkenson; Misses White, Branks, .Elderton (2), Egerton, Scott, Crengle (2), Goodwillie (2), Kelland (2), Warnecke (2), Wytock (2), Wilkenson, Martin, Roberson, Hodges (2), Shearing, WLxon; Messrs Cleaver, Beadle, Dallas, Te Au (2), Marsh, Fisher, Elderton, Egerton, Scott, Hopwood, Huggins, Dawson, Thompson, Blackie (2), Lapham (2), Martin, Hodges, Shearing, Robinson, Wilkenson, Dickson, Beer, Todd, Excell, Hamilton, Kini, Donaldson, Backmore. Mr and Mrs L. Craig and family, who have been holidaying with Mrs R. Whittle, returned to Gore on Sunday. Mrs Branks, Invercargill, spent a few days in Colac with Mrs T. Egerton. Mr Hornell, Christchurch, is staying with his daughter, Mrs G. Williams (Colac/. Miss G. Pont and Mr H. Pont stayed a few days in Tuatapere last week. Miss P. Branks (Ryal Bush) is spending a holiday with Miss Thora Egerton. Miss Fay Belsham, who spent a few days with Mr and Mrs V. Gerken (Gore) returned home on Sunday.

Mr and Mrs F. Crosado returned to Colac on Friday after spending the Christmas week in Invercargill. Mr F. Belsham, Bluff, returned home on Friday after staying a few days with Mr and Sirs Frank Belsham.

Mr and Mrs H. Dutton and family, Tokonui, were in Colac during the week. The Cameron Home boys arrived at Colac on Monday morning by train to stay for the rest of the school holidays. On Monday evening a benefit dance was held in the Drill Hall for Mr T. Cleaver who was severely scalded last week. Music was supplied for the dance by Miss Tessie Goodwillie (piano) and Mr Goodwillie (violin). The duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs Fisher and Hodges. The competitions were won by W. Brown (mystery parcel) and W. T. Egerton (501 b bag of flour). The following were recent guests at Mrs Frank Belsham’s for afternoon tea: Mrs and Miss Wytock (Gore), Mr and Mrs Tanner (Milton), Mr and Mrs McLeod (Gore), Mr and Mrs V. Gerken (Gore), and Mr Matheson (Gore). Miss F. Goodwillie is spending three weeks’ holiday at her grandmother’s, Mrs Shannon’s, Point Road, Bluff. Miss Batt, Waimatuku, is staying with Miss M. Kelland, Tihaka. Mr and Mrs B. Kaye and their small daughter, of Oamaru, are staying with Mrs Goodwillie, Tihaka. Mr and Mrs Benefield (W’anganui) are the guests of Mrs Lapham, Tihaka. Miss Leona Goodwillie, Tihaka, is staying at ‘Bluff.
