N.S.W. UPPER HOUSE
25 MORE MEMBERS
OATH ADMINISTERED BY GOVERNOR NEW GUARD’S REQUEST (United • Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) Sydney, November 23. The Governor, Sir Philip Game, to-day administered the oath to 25 new members of the Legislative Council. The newspapers continue to attack the Lang Administration in the bitterest fashion and predict grave economic and industrial consequences as a result of the Governor’s change of front.. The Governor says he acted on his own responsibility in making the Legislative Council appointments, and had informed the Dominions Office subsequently. It is officially announced on behalf of the Government that it did not propose to reintroduce the 5/- in the £ salaries’ tax which was rejected by the Legislative Council. There will be introduced shortly a Transport Monopoly Bill which will abolish the Railway Commission and other transport bodies and create complete Ministerial control.
The Governor to-day received a petition' from the New Guard asking him to dissolve the Legislative Assembly on the ground that the people of New South Wales were very apprehensive because of continued disloyal acts and utterances, and because the Premier and Ministers no longer retained the confidence of the people. The Governor agreed to give his answer to-morrow.
