PUKERAU NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) The recent warm rains, which have had the effect of removing the last of July’s snowfalls, have made the soil and some drying winds would be appreciated. Winter feed appears to be ample for district requirements, although the waste of turnips owing to the exceptionally severe winter weather has been heavy. A few lambs are to be seen about the district, the largest number being on the property of Mr F. Trapski, who recently established a Southdown stud flock. The final round of a series of euchre tournaments was played in the hall on Wednesday evening last, there being a large attendance. The prize-winners were Mrs W. Taylor and Mr G. K. Pullar. Mrs Taylor also annexed the ladies’ prize for the highest aggregate games over the series, the men’s prize being won by Mr F. Trapski jnr. The final shoot for the Gore R.S.A. trophy was held by members of the local Rifle Club on Saturday, August 15, weather'conditions being good. The winner of the trophy was E. Speden, who in the two previous shoots had compiled 134 points. W. Scully, with 133 points, gained second place. Following are score results of the meeting,
