Considerable difficulty is being experienced by contractors in the final removal of the debris littering some sections in the business area of Napier. Portions of walls which once belonged to ferro-concrete buildings frequently offer solid resistance, and it has been found almost impossible to disintegrate them completely. The result is that large portions of a wall, • often weighing almost a ton, have to be removed in one piece, involving the use of a derrick and hoist to load them on to lorries.
