DRY SPELL BROKEN

HEAVY RAIN IN CANTERBURY. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 23. A long spell of fine weather was broken to-day with a heavy south-west gale' and heavy rain. Although farmers wanted rain they would have preferred it without such severe cold. On the higher country at the foot of the mountains there . were sleet showers and in places snow. The rain which has fallen will not be sufficient to spoil the record of the half-year, which is nearly completed, as the driest ever experienced in Canterbury.
