Official advice has been received by the Postmaster (Mr E. A. Pankhurst), Wyndham, that the local mail service would be augmented, as from Saturday, by mails per southbound express on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and by northbound express on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Although repeated requests for the extra service have been made by the Wyndham Town Board, apparently to no avail, it was not until the matter .had been considered as a remit from the board at the annual meeting of Southland local bodies and members of Parliament, convened by the Southland League, and so ably placed before the conference by Commissioner Lance Harper, of the Wyndham Town Board, that the request was finally granted. However, ever since the curtailed service came into force Mr David McDougall, member for the district, had persistently kept at the authorities, pointing out the disadvantages the community were faced with, and a great deal of the success in securing the request is due to that gentleman. At a meeting of the Wyndham bachelors and spinsters held on Monday evening, it was decided to hold their annual ball on July 28. Mr H. Hayes and Miss F. Ewan were appointed to the chair, and, Mr-C. Larsen and Miss Jean Winter joint secretaries.
